Guadalupe. Otis. Guadalupe Ortiz de Landázuri was one of the first female members of Opus Dei. Born on December 12, 1916, she grew up in a Catholic family in Madrid. After the Spanish Civil War, she graduated with a degree in chemistry from the Central University of Madrid in 1939, one of five girls in her class. When she met Saint Josemaría, the founder of Opus Dei, she immediately grasped what he taught: both professional work and everyday life are ways to find and love God. She joined Opus Dei in 1944 and soon gave great support to the founders of the group from its inception. Her desire to love God is what drives her in everything she does, and this love is also reflected in her caring for others and her infectious openness.

From childhood, she has clearly shown the courageous qualities of her character. She was a trailblazer in many ways: she opened Zurbarán in Madrid, the first dormitory for university girls; in 1950 she started the work of Opus Dei in Mexico , and lived there until 1956. After a year working with St. Josemaría in Rome, she returned to Madrid with a serious heart problem. However, this serious illness did not deter her, and she completed a doctorate in chemistry and taught in Madrid for the last eight years of her life. Guadalupe has the virtues of a heroine. She was beatified on May 18, 2019, the first female member of Opus Dei to be beatified. This biography offers a glimpse into important trajectories and personality traits in her life.

Mercedes. Ejiba. Born in Gijón , Spain, Mercedes Eguíbar Galarza was deputy editor of the Spanish magazine Telva and director of the SIENA Company. Mercedes spent two years carefully examining Guadalupe's life, interviewing 200 people and consulting the archives of the Opus Dei in Rome.
